If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a hundred times, “But Boni, I followed everything in the book and it just isn’t working!”

“It ALWAYS works,” I counter.

Still it hadn’t work for them. And it may not be working for you. And, like everything, everywhere, everywhen, there is always a reason it isn’t working.

Of course, I can’t really tell why your particular dream hasn’t manifested. It may be that you are stuck in a flow stopper like self-pity or martyr. It may be that you stopped flowing positive energy towards your dream and you only pay attention to what you don’t have (yep, that would mean you’re flowing negative energy towards it).

But sometimes, you are doing everything right. And it still hasn’t manifested—not even a sign.

The likely culprit…

Your foundational beliefs

Foundational beliefs are beliefs about beliefs themselves, beliefs about creating reality and beliefs about your ability to create your reality and/or change your beliefs.

Foundational beliefs are beliefs that will sabotage your belief changing work and ultimately your entire dream. Foundational beliefs are beliefs such as:

It is impossible to create my own reality.

If you hold that belief, no matter how many books you read or how much work you do to create your world, that belief will make it impossible!

These beliefs must be changed before any other beliefs, in order to successfully and easily move forward.

I have broken down these “mothers of all beliefs” into categories to make them easier to identify.

It is not possible/easy:

We don’t really create our own realities.
I cannot create my reality.
I cannot change my beliefs.
It is difficult to create my reality.
It is hard to change beliefs.
I cannot easily discover my subconscious beliefs.
I cannot change my beliefs about _______ (money, love, men, women, health, work, other people, etc.…)

It works for everyone else but me:

Even if I “change my beliefs” my world will not change.
Nothing ever works for me.
I do not have what it takes to change my beliefs, and thus my life.
I do not have the power or ability to create my world.
It is hard to create what I want.
I am not powerful enough to change my beliefs.

It is wrong/unspiritual to create my reality:

It is wrong to change my beliefs.
I will be punished if I change my beliefs.
Only God can change my beliefs.
It is unspiritual to change my beliefs.
Only God can create my reality.
It is blasphemous to believe I can create my own reality

I’m not ready:

I am not ready to change my beliefs about ___________ (money, love, men, women, health, work, other people, etc.…)
I am not ready for the success that will happen when I change my beliefs.
I can have the realities I desire after I clear out all my blockages.
I am not healed enough to create my reality.
If I successfully create my own reality the responsibility of that would be too much for me to handle.
I am not (old, young, wise, capable, seasoned, experienced, smart, etc.) enough to create my own reality.

It’s not safe:

My success that happens as a result of changing my beliefs will make people I care about feel badly about their own life.
If I change my beliefs about _________ (money, love, men, women, health, work, other people, etc.…) and my world changes, someone I care about (or use an actual name) will be hurt.
Something bad will happen if I change my beliefs.
It is not safe to create all that I want.
If I believe in this information others will ridicule me.

Can you understand how debilitating these beliefs would be? How they would stop you from moving forward before you even got started?

You may be asking, “But how do I tell if a belief is mine?”  I know—I have asked that question myself, and for a long time my only answers were:

“If it is reflected in your world, it is yours,” and…
“Use your gut to determine if it’s yours.”

But sometimes it isn’t that easy to tell. So I teach a form of applied kinesiology to determine whether someone holds a belief. This method works very well, if you are centered and calm and believe it will work.

If you suspect you might not let this work, before anything, change these beliefs:

Applied kinesiology will not work for me to determine my beliefs.
It is not safe to use applied kinesiology to determine my beliefs.

How to let your body tell you if you have a belief

Applied kinesiology is also called “muscle testing”. It allows the body to give a yes or no response when asked a question. The reason applied kinesiology works, is that the body is essentially an electrical circuit. Energy is always flowing within that circuitry.

When your energy is flowing smoothly, your body works the way it is supposed to. When the flow of energy is blocked, the body shows that blockage because the muscles don’t work as well as when they are not blocked.

What causes the blockage? Anything that is not true will cause an energy blockage. This is why we can use it to show which beliefs are true for us.

Here is how to use a form of muscle testing to test your beliefs:

1.    Become calm and centered.

2.    Stand up straight, with your feet shoulder width apart.

3.    Clear your energy field by tapping lightly on your chest, throat, and forehead.

4.    First practice how the true/untrue or yes/no answers show themselves in your body. Close your eyes and say, “My name is (and say your name).”

Your body will remain solid and strong. It will not be difficult to stand without swaying.

Next, with your eyes still closed, say, “My name is (and make up a name or say someone else’s name).”

You will notice your body will either fall back, or fall forward, or otherwise become wobbly. It does this because the “untruth” of saying the name that isn’t yours interferes with the energy flow of your body, causing your body to sway.

5.    Repeat this “name game” a few times until you feel good about the difference between true and untrue in your body.

6.    Now say, “Does any part of me hold the belief: (And say the belief you suspect you hold.)”

If you do hold that belief, your body will hold strong and solid. If you do not hold the belief, your body will falter. Basically: strong = yes, wobbly = no.

I have found it’s best to test a few beliefs at a time with this method. Then rest for a while and test a few more.

I suggest using this method along with the other methods of determining beliefs:

1.    Asking yourself if your reality reflects the belief and
2.    Asking yourself whether it feels accurate to you in your gut

While there is no harm in changing a belief you don’t really hold, there is also no benefit to it. You only have so many hours in a day, and you may as well use them effectively.

Who should test for foundational beliefs?

Everyone should test for foundational beliefs. Because even if you are creating some success, there may be a part of you that doesn’t believe you are powerful, create it all, that beliefs can be easily changed or holds another foundational belief that if changed, could make your work so much easier.

Life should be a joy. And this work should be a joy. This is one important way to accomplish that.

Have fun with this—and watch your world (maybe finally) begin to shift!

Love,

P.S. You can learn how to change a belief here. And below are the corresponding positive beliefs to those listed above:

It is not possible/easy:

Boni – I have found the belief work that I’ve learned from The Map and this blog to be very powerful, but I have a question. I tried the muscle testing and swayed when I said “My name is Marilyn.” I really could not tell the difference between statements that I knew to be true and those I knew to be false. Any suggestions? Maybe I just have bad balance?

    • Boni

      Hi Marilyn,

I don’t think it’s that you have bad balance. :) But I am not surprised that you (and others) find you can’t tell the difference at first. Using applied kineseology does take some practice. And it may not be a comfortable technique for some.

You can always go back to discerning your beliefs by your gut and by your reality. And if doubt, on these foundational beliefs, change them anyway. It certainly can’t hurt.

Thanks for asking this question Marilyn!

      love,
      Boni

      Dear Perna,

I know for a fact that everyone (especially those who have access to information such as on this website) CAN create a life they love. There is everything you need here to do that Perna. You said you read The Map but are you doing the work? You can create anything…but you MUST do the work.

I would begin by asking yourself if you really WANT to be an administrator? It doesn’t seem like you feel much joy. Follow your heart dear Perna…it will take you where you need to go.

I am happy to answer any questions you have that have not been previously answered. But there are a LOT of answers here. Sending you love and light…I KNOW you can do this Perna. You. Are. Powerful.

      much love,
      Boni

    Boni,
This is a great post, thanks so much, it really helps a lot!

  • Lainie

Several weeks ago, I came to realize that I had a lot of original grief work/inner child healing to do. Boni’s work talks about talking with our inner children if our reality isn’t aligning with our desires. As I was reading Sanaya Roman’s ‘Living with Joy”, Orin talks about integrating our sub-personalities. Identical concept. Two authors: same message! The Universe got my attention!
I am a 65 year old woman who is an adult child of an alcoholic and whose family remained dysfunctional even after the parent got “sober” (never worked a healing program, however.) My wounded inner children have directed my decisions throughout the course of my life. Since I ‘recognized’ them and started talking with them several weeks ago, the pain is coming to the surface — decades of unhealed trauma. My inner children now must sense they can feel safe with me, and I will not abandon them. For the pain finally coming to the surface, I am truly grateful! My life will change for the better. A dear friend of mine reminds me “One needs to feel, to deal, to heal.”
HOWEVER, I’m hung up on this: it is suggested by you, Boni, and others to change our story, otherwise we continue creating the same story. For the last year or so, I discontinued my 12-step work and affirmed an adult child of an alcoholic is NOT who I am. However, my subconscious shouts otherwise. My question is this: as I heal my inner children and unite the family that is me, am I then changing my story? Is this the process that will change my reality?
I am doing my inner healing work with the love and support of two of my 12-step girlfriends, whom I love dearly and trust implicitly. As is typical of one whose inner children are wounded, I have trouble ‘accessing’ and maintaining a relationship with, as you call them, Boni, my unseen friends. Otherwise I’d give recognition to them supporting me, as well. Tomorrow, I’m going back to my Al Anon meetings. These women, my 12 step friends, have a balance and consistency to their lives that I cannot find in my ‘metaphysical’ life. I crave normalcy, balance, consistency in my life.
I had intended to PM you about this dilemma, Boni, but I thought I’d post it here, instead, in hopes that others, too, will benefit from your reply. Beliefs reside either in the conscious or the subconscious parts of our mind, and we can manifest only when these beliefs align with our desires, right? So, it seems to me that as I do my inner healing work, my beliefs will change, I’ll manifest my desires, and my story will change.
    Thank you,
    Lainie

    • Boni

      Hi Lainie,

Congratulations on your commitment to heal and grow and create a life you love.

      Regarding your question:

“As I heal my inner children and unite the family that is me, am I then changing my story? Is this the process that will change my reality?”

As you heal your inner child and then create a new story, THEN your reality changes. You see, it is great you are healing your inner child—it is exactly what you should be doing right now. But eventually, she will be healed. And then you will move on…to what? THAT will be your new story. What you move on to.

For instance, I “survived” sexual abuse as a toddler. You don’t hear me write or talk about this much, but yeah, it happened. I don’t talk about it now because that isn’t my story now.

NOW my story is, “I am a powerful reality creator, divine by my very nature, living a life I absolutely ADORE! I also teach others this fabulous, amazing information. AND I travel the world with the love of my life, having a blast each and every day.”

See the difference? So for now, healing your child, you are erasing the old story, healing it so it doesn’t “attach” to you, and giving you the space to write your new story. But you, dear Lainie, still have to write that new story.

With regard to your second question:

“Beliefs reside either in the conscious or the subconscious parts of our mind, and we can manifest only when these beliefs align with our desires, right? So, it seems to me that as I do my inner healing work, my beliefs will change, I’ll manifest my desires, and my story will change.”

Beliefs reside in your subconscious. And yes, your dreams manifest when you flow energy towards them AND believe they are possible AND don’t have opposing beliefs (that say they are not possible).

As you do your inner healing work you disconnect that wound, that hurt, that pain. You still must change the beliefs you took on. And then you need to write (dream) a new story. Three parts. Not just one.

It’s a process, Lainie. And a deeply rich and fulfilling process. You are on the right track though!!

      Much love,
      Boni

      • Lainie

You are AMAZING, Boni! Your words ALWAYS bring comfort, inspiration, wisdom, guidance, and love. Thank you so much for your in-depth reply to my post!
